Aside from auctioning off fan art for a good cause, the LiveJournal Communities hive comprises another comb of users who like to craft geeky apparel and decorations, such as Space Invader hats and fuzzy twelve-sided dice.
Members of Geek Crafts post images of knits, crochets, needle-points and jewelry, linking to project patterns inspired by or based on tv shows and video games.

Good news, everyone!
Futurama is only three episodes into its sixth season on Comedy Central, and we at Handshake already have a bunch to discuss.
The first episode, Rebirth, definitely worked as an explanation for how all the characters returned from a certain final death/wormhole scene in the last movie. The second and third episodes, on the other hand, find the show giving far more not-so-subtle social commentary than it used to.

Vaults be damned!
In the post-apocalyptic world of Fallout, the area immediately around Las Vegas is saved from any nuclear blasts, making New Vegas an oasis of gambling strips in a wasteland of radiation and mutated beasts. The developers of Bethesda Softworks seem to have used the same thoughtful touch in New Vegas that they used in Fallout 3 in incorporating the story, world, and RPG mechanics that made Interplay‘s Fallout so amazing.

Put a quarter into any old Galaga machine (or better yet, play it online) and those nostalgic 25 notes play the same tune Namco programmed into the arcade ROM in 1981. What Namco probably didn’t know then is that countless fans would later immortalized that fuzzy Star-Wars-wannabe theme in MIDI form.

Cassini, the Saturn-orbiting module of the Cassini-Huygens joint mission, has recently sent back detailed spectrometric images of Titan’s atmosphere and surface.
Astrobiologists from across the world are arguing that the moon’s abundance of organic molecules indicates methane-based, hydrogen-breathing life or pre-life on Titan.
Cartoon Network’s Adventure Time with Finn and Jake Brings Together The Best Of All Things Geeky

Cartoon shows hardly ever come in such a neat little package of dorky, non-sensical humor. In Adventure Time, Jake the super-malleable dog and Finn the human do battle with an onslaught of silly villains in an adventure video game-like world. The quirky theme song is charming, but the real winner is the show’s subtle 8-bit [...]
Fan Art for a good cause: LiveJournal community raises over $115,000 for UNICEF’s Haiti relief
Fan works often get a bad rap. By fan works, I don’t mean the 70 sketches of Maijin Vegeta you did in seventh grade or that best Legolas AU ever.
