Bethesda Reveals More Than Mere Trailers For Fallout New Vegas

Vaults be damned!

In the post-apocalyptic world of Fallout, the area immediately around Las Vegas is saved from any nuclear blasts, making New Vegas an oasis of gambling strips in a wasteland of radiation and mutated beasts. The developers of Bethesda Softworks seem to have used the same thoughtful touch in New Vegas that they used in Fallout 3 in incorporating the story, world, and RPG mechanics that made Interplay‘s Fallout so amazing.

As a company known for immersive and referential titles such as The Elder Scrolls saga, Bethesda continues expanding the Fallout world with its cheeky mix of ’50s era music, first-person shooter engine, and in-game turn-based option called V.A.T.S. (Vault-Tec Assisted Targeting System).

The New Vegas teaser hints of a comeback for the Nightkin as well as the heavily rusted (and often heavily armed) robots from Fallout 3.

Gambling mini-games are even more elaborate than in Junktown’s beloved Gizmo’s Casino, since your pro- and/or antagonistic avatar begins the story in New Vegas itself.

As IGN’s exclusive preview with two New Vegas developers also shows, the game world will contain many different types of currency, forcing me to reconsider what I will do with all those bottle caps I’ve been saving up for the nuclear apocalypse.
