Chatroulette Creator Honored At Webby Awards

Although there are creeps, geeks, and weirdos that do some random things (some of them obscene) on Chatroulette, the site is still considered by many as a great social networking tool.

Chatroulette.com earned a Webby Award Monday night in Manhattan. Andrey Ternovskiy, the 17-year-old founder of the site, was given the “Breakout of the Year” award. (Even though his speech was five words that you could hardly understand, I’m certain he was glad that he won).

David-Michel Davies, the executive director of the Webby Awards, told the crowd that he was amazed that a 17-year-old kid from Russia could create something like Chatroulette.com this far into the web, and literally have all the major global media talk about it three days later.

Twitter, Foursquare, and Mashable also received social networking awards.

I like this kid, but cannot comprehend why anyone would use his website.

There’s a great New Yorker article about him here: http://www.newyorker.com/reporting/2010/05/17/100517fa_fact_ioffe
