Tuesday is the day for new releases for video games and DVDs. Here’s our guide to the new releases for Tuesday, June 22:
1. Green Zone
It’s really quite simple: if you like the Bourne trilogy, you’re probably going to want to pick up Green Zone. Matt Damon? Check. Political conspiracy undertones? Check. Lots of violence and stuff blowing up? Double check. The movie is based on a 2006 book and covers a US Warrant Officer (Damon) who is helping hunt down WMDs in Iraq, but to no avail. While technically “based” on a true story, many of the real life characters portrayed in the film have criticized the conspiracy angles of the movie. Still, though, a lot of stuff blows up.
Recommendation: Rent, don’t buy.
What do you get when you take The 40 Year Old Virgin, subtract Steve Carell and Judd Apatow, and add in Jay Baruchel (better known as that guy with the Canada tatoo from Knocked Up)? She’s Out of My League. The movie is as predictable a comedy as you’ll find in the “Seth Rogen comedy” era, but it has its moments and is worth a watch.
Recommendation: Redbox or Netflix. It’s really not worth going out of your way for.
Recommendation: Avoid at all costs.
1. Transformers: War for Cybertron (Xbox 360, Playstation 3, PC)
The other games in the Transformers series have been your typical movie-to-game busts, but War for Cybertron looks to break away from that. Set before the timeframe of the films, War for Cybertron is free to make a plot of its own, which you get to do by choosing between an Autobot or Decepticon campaign to start the game off.
Recommendation: It’s worth a look if you’re into the genre, but it’s not bringing in any new fans.
